New Bishop Announced
On Monday, it was announced that Canon Paul Swarbrick has been chosen by Pope Francis to be the next (seventh) Bishop of Lancaster. Canon Paul is a priest of the diocese and is currently parish priest in Workington. He has served in parishes across the diocese and spent 15 years engaged in missionary work in Zambia. He is 59 years old so, God willing, we should have him for some time. Bishop Campbell ceased to be Bishop of Lancaster with the announcement but, until Canon Paul is ordained, he remains as Apostolic Administrator of the diocese. Canon Paul has asked for our prayers:
Heavenly Father, you sent Jesus to shepherd your people and the Holy Spirit to make your people one. Send your Holy Spirit to anoint our new Bishop-Elect Paul Swarbrick, that he may continue the work of renewal in the Church and unite our parishes, priests and people in love, truth and wisdom. Give him a true shepherd’s heart like that of Jesus, that he may give strength to the weak, heal the broken-hearted, console the lonely, bring back the wandering and be a power against the evil of our day. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Congratulations to governors, staff and pupils of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School! Ofsted recently visited for an inspection and concluded that the school continues to be a ‘Good’ school. The inspector praised the leaders for their "strong shared ambition for the school and its pupils” and that pupils are “polite, friendly and provide visitors with a warm welcome” and have an “extremely high standard of behaviour. He described the teaching as “high-quality”. Well done all!
