Newman New School —
That’s Entertainment
From Fr Norman Johnston: The News & Star recently gave two pages of excellent cover to the birth of Newman Secondary School in 1968 and its anticipated re-birth after the floods of 2015.
Money will not be provided for the building of a chapel in the new school and so the Knights of St Columba have undertaken to supervise the raising of £75,000 for this project.
A major fund-raising event will be a variety show, That’s Entertainment, to be held on Friday 11 May 2018, in the Sands Centre. Preparations are now well underway. Young people, ex-Newman pupils and local amateur talent will be taking part. Book the date!
Fr Norman is also looking for an old metal bucket for the show. If you have one lying around in your garden or shed, please let him know - tel: 538119.

St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School
CLOSING DATE FOR SEPTEMBER 2018 RECEPTION PLACES.
If your child was born between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014 then they are due to start Reception Class in September! The closing date for applications for St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School is NEXT WEEK- 15th January. Please call or pop into the School Office and we will help you with your application. Remember: having a place in our Nursery does not automatically entitle your child to a place in Reception. It is essential that you make a new application.

Also from St. Margaret Mary….
As we build up to the 80th Anniversary of the school in the summer, we would like to provide our children with opportunities to develop their aspirations by hearing the success stories of our past students. If you are, or know, a past student and you believe that you have a story to tell, then please contact us either via the facebook page or by emailing the school office. Ensuring our children have the best opportunities is fundamental to the school and, in an ever changing world, your stories could be enough to ignite a spark and to make a huge difference to the next generation of the school.

Prayer for a New Bishop

‘Almighty God, Eternal shepherd and guide.
In your love for us, grant to the Catholic Diocese of Lancaster a shepherd who will lead us to be Christ’s heart of mercy, voice of hope and hands of justice.
Help him to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments and the desire to build up your holy Church. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.’
