All Saints Day
Wednesday 1st November is a Holy Day of obligation where we are obliged to attend Holy Mass.  There will be Mass to fulfil the obligation at the following times and venues:
31st October
7.00 pm St. Margaret Mary [Vigil Mass]
1st November
9.30 am St. Margaret Mary [with Primary School]
11.45 am Christ the King [with Newman School]
7.00 pm Christ the King 

Month of the Holy Souls
A Novena of Masses for the intention of the Holy Souls will be offered during November.  Envelopes are available in both churches should you wish your deceased relatives and friends to be included in these Masses. The annual blessing of graves and prayers for those buried will be held at Upperby Cemetery on Saturday 18th November 2017 at 12.00 noon.  All are welcome.

Getting the Garden Ready for Winter
Help is needed on Saturday 11th November from 11.15 am to get the Presbytery Garden ready for winter….bacon butties and tea/coffee for willing volunteers.  Bonfire promised.  Bring a leaf rake if you have one.

Sr Maureen
As many of you will be aware, Sr. Maureen has been poorly in recent months and has been spending some time with her Community recuperating. It’s with sadness that we learn that her time and ministry in Carlisle will be coming to an end. We express our gratitude for her prayerful presence, her witness and her commitment to the spread of the Gospel during her time in Carlisle, particularly in her ministry in the Hospice and Hospital - she has brought many people back to the Lord and to the consolation of the sacraments by her gentle presence and witness. Please keep her in your prayers.  If you wish to contribute to a farewell gift for Sr Maureen, please place in an envelope marked ‘Sr. Maureen’.

Sportsman’s Dinner
To raise funds for the new chapel at Newman School, St Margaret Mary’s parish centre, Scalegate Road will be holding a sportsman’s dinner to include pie & pea supper, raffle and auction. Comedian & MC: Howard Nicholson/After Dinner Speaker: Steve Kindon. This event will take place on Friday 10 November, from 7.00 pm - 12.30 am. Prayer for a New Bishop
Bishop Campbell has asked all the people of the diocese to pray for a new bishop for the Diocese of Lancaster. 
‘Almighty God, Eternal shepherd and guide.
In your love for us, grant to the Catholic Diocese of Lancaster a shepherd who will lead us to be Christ’s heart of mercy, voice of hope, and hands of justice.
Help him to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments, and the desire to build up your holy Church. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Offertory and Figures for Last Weekend
Numbers at Mass were Saturday evening - 60, Sunday 9.00 am - 54 and Sunday 11.00 am - 91. A total of 205.  Thank you for the offering of £364.46 at Christ the King and £286.10 at St. Margaret Mary.  The total being £650.56

Carlisle Food Bank
The Food Bank organisers send their thanks for our recent donations. Items in short supply are UHT milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit and vegetables, and tinned meals. Please leave your donations in the basket in the porch. 

Street Pastors in Carlisle 
Street Pastors is an international, but primarily UK, Christian organisation whose motto is Listening, Caring and Helping. They go onto the streets of the city between 10.00 pm Saturday night and approximately 3.00 am on a Sunday morning and offer help to anyone who may need it. This help could include flip flops for women with sore feet, simple first aid, helping people to taxis or just simply a listening ear. Each person goes out once a month only and they operate in groups of three or four. Street Pastors in Carlisle are anxious to recruit new members. This is an opportunity to step back from our busy lives and reflect on where we are going, with time for reflection, discussion and prayer and enjoy meeting other young adults. Cost - £65. The 66th Carlisle Walsingham Pilgrimage 2018 
Each year since 1954, members of parishes in Carlisle and district have joined together and gone on pilgrimage to the National shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, in Norfolk. Cost: £220 for a standard room, including accommodation and all but one meal, an afternoon trip, entry to the site of the Holy House, tips and coach travel. If you would like to know more about joining the pilgrimage from Tuesday 3 – Friday 6 April, please contact Jo Muter: 524087 or jemuter47@gmail.com.

From 8-10 December - take time out from the busy run-up to Christmas to prepare for the Lord’s coming. This weekend retreat, for young people in year 9 and above, will be a fun occasion to meet other young people and, together, reflect on what Christmas is really about through games, workshops, discussions and prayer. Sr Maureen

World Mission Sunday
Today is (21st/22nd October) World Mission Sunday. This is your chance to support missionaries and the Church in proclaiming the Gospel of peace to those who suffer around the world, and now even in our own country and even in Carlisle! By supporting Missio, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission, you will be sharing the peace and love of Christ with all people by helping everyone in need, regardless of background or belief. The Feast of St. Margaret Mary
The feast of St. Margaret Mary will be observed during Mass this Sunday, 15th October, in St. Margaret Mary’s Church followed by refreshments after Mass. 

Fr Kevin Lowry
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Fr Kevin Lowry.  Fr Kevin’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Ansdell on Wednesday, 18th October, at 11.30 am.  There will be a Mass for his intention at St. Augustine’s on Friday, 20th October, at 7.00 pm. Fr Kevin was a former pupil of St. Margaret Mary School.  May he rest in peace.

Parish Catechesis
Tuesday night parish catechesis continues this Tuesday, 10th October, in the Parish Centre at St. Margaret Mary from 7.30 pm.  This unit of reflection focuses on the series ‘Catholicism’. This week is the last in the series.

Blessed John Henry Newman
Parishioners are invited to join Newman Catholic School in celebrating their patronal feast day with Mass at Christ the King at 10.30 am on Tuesday, 10th October.

A Day of the Rosary - this Friday
Friday 13th October marks the end of the centenary of the apparitions of Fatima.  We will mark this as a parish at St. Margaret Mary’s with an extended period of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in which the Rosary will be recited at various times throughout the day.  The day will end with a torchlit Rosary Procession and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. A film representing the events of Fatima will be shown on Tuesday 17th October at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre.

Gin Tasting Evening
The ‘Friends of the Sacred Heart Parish’ have organised a Gin Tasting Evening led by Fr. Michael on Friday, 20th October.  He’ll look at the history of Gin and there’ll be an opportunity to test 4 different gins.  Tickets cost £10.

Living Well with Dementia
All are welcome to this evening event, Monday 9 October, at 6.00 pm in Waterton Hall, Warwick Square. It will include a Dementia Friends session, light refreshments, then presentations on local activities and available support for people living with dementia and their carers.

Thanks to all who organised and supported this initiative.  A total of £928.00 was raised for parish funds.
