Fashion Parade
Following the success of last year’s event The Friends of the Sacred Heart Parish are holding  a Fashion Parade at 7.30pm in St Margaret Mary Community Centre, on Wednesday 27th September. Tickets £5 and are available from Alison Hather and Liz Sproat. Tickets are selling fast - please get one soon!

Parish Catechesis
Tuesday night parish catechesis continues on Tuesday 3rd October in the Parish Centre at St. Margaret Mary from 7.30 pm. This unit of reflection focuses on the series ‘Catholicism’. Please consider coming along - all are welcome.

Prayer for a New Bishop
Bishop Campbell has asked all the people of the diocese to pray for a new bishop for the Diocese of Lancaster. 
‘Almighty God, Eternal shepherd and guide.
In your love for us, grant to the Catholic Diocese of Lancaster a shepherd who will lead us to be Christ’s heart of mercy, voice of hope and hands of justice.
Help him to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments and the desire to build up your holy Church. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Offertory and Figures for Last Weekend
Numbers at Mass were Saturday evening - 62, Sunday 9.00 am - 102 and Sunday 11.00 am - 84.  A total of 248.  Thank you for the offering of £532.42 at Christ the King and £213.00 at St. Margaret Mary.  The total being £745.42.
Why not invite a Catholic you know who hasn’t been to Mass for a long time to come to Mass with you? It may plant a seed…

Gin Tasting Evening
The ‘Friends of the Sacred Heart Parish’ have organised a Gin Tasting Evening on Friday 20th October.  Details to follow.

Music Day for Parish Singers & Musicians
Led by Peter Cobb from Preston. To be eld on Saturday, 30 September, 10.30 am – 2.30 pm, at St Bede’s centre, Wigton Road, Carlisle CA2 7ES.
An opportunity to look at new musical settings for the Mass, psalms and Advent. All welcome. If you play an instrument, you are welcome to take it with you. If you’re able to attend, please phone C Battle on 07801 447042.

Carlisle Food Bank
The Food Bank organisers send their thanks for our recent donations. Items in short supply are UHT milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit and vegetables, and tinned meals. Please leave your donations in the basket in the porch. 

£1 Coins
Old-style £1 coins will soon cease to be legal tender…the parish would be happy to ‘dispose’ of them before October for you if you have a few hanging about…just place them in the collection plate during Mass ☺︎

SVP Society Awareness Month
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society in England and Wales has around 10,000 members who, last year, made 500,000 visits to those in need.  September is SVP Awareness Month - finding, loving and serving God in our community is fundamental to the Society’s work. The SVP is always in need of new members to carry out this work so if you would like to find out more, please contact Kate Reardon at St. Margaret Mary or Paul Daley at Christ the King. 

Fr Jerome Ainsworth
Thank you for your prayers for Fr Jerome - his operation went well and he is now out of hospital and recuperating. Please keep him in your prayers.

In 2016, St. Margaret Mary’s boxes raised £1207. Thank you all for your kind contributions.

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
Please support The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 29th September at St. Margaret Mary School.  Details to follow.  The Ladies Group are not going to hold their Coffee Morning, but are going to support St. Margaret Mary School.

Living Well with Dementia
All are welcome to this evening event on Monday 9 October, at 6.00 pm at Waterton Hall, Warwick Square. It will include a Dementia Friends session, light refreshments, then presentations on local activities and available support for people living with dementia and their carers.

Diocesan Education Mass
The Bishop invites all who are involved in teaching (in the Catholic or State sector), Liturgy with Children, preparation for First Holy Communion, etc, to gather with him for Mass in our diocesan cathedral at Lancaster LA1 3BT, on Friday 6 October at 7.00 pm, to ask for God’s blessing on the new year of teaching and formation.

Sportsman’s Dinner
To raise funds for the new chapel at Newman School. Pie & pea supper, together with raffle and auction. Comedian & MC: Howard Nicholson. After dinner speaker: Steve Kindon.

At present - not enough requests for Mass intentions are coming from parishioners at St. Margaret Mary. There are only 2 intentions left ‘on the books’ for St. Margaret Mary…33 for Christ the King and 15 from other sources.

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Clothing Sale
The Friends of St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School are holding a Clothes Sale on Tuesday 19th September at 3.00 pm in aid of Mary’s Meals. All adult items £1. All children's items 50p. Donations welcome.

Pilgrimage to Cleator
A 42-seater coach will leave Christ the King at 1.00 pm and collect at St. Margaret Marys on the way to Cleator for the Mass at 3.00 pm.  On the way home we will stop off at the Hundith Hill Hotel near Cockermouth for a bar meal [main courses from £11-£12].  There are seats available on the coach….please think about coming along.  A collection will be taken on the coach to cover the cost of hire.

CAFOD — Carlisle Meeting — All Welcome 
An opportunity to look more deeply into CAFOD’s work overseas, sharing an update on projects in El Salvador, which is the country  of focus for this year’s Harvest appeal, and showing how the Catholic community is making a lasting difference in the world around us. To be held on Monday 11 September from 7.00 – 8.30 pm, refreshments from 6.45pm, at Waterton Hall Warwick Square, Carlisle CA1 1LB.

School Mass

On Wednesday, we welcome pupils and staff of St. Ninian’s Catholic Federation to St. Margaret Mary Church for their beginning of term Mass.  Mass is at a slightly later time to accommodate travel time from St. Cuthbert’s school.

Women Together in the Diocese 
All ladies are invited to the next gathering of Women Together in the Diocese of Lancaster,  on Saturday 16 September, from 10.30 am - 
3.30 pm, at St Peter’s Cathedral, Lancaster LA1 3BT. The Bishop will preside at Mass, at 12.15 pm. 
Veronica Murphy, adult education coordinator, Liverpool RC diocese, will lead reflection on Pope Francis’ letter, The Joy of Love. See the poster & booking form in the foyer. For further information, please call 01772-715495.

St. Bede’s
Just to say that St. Bede’s will be closed from 11th September to 16th September for maintenance work. Mass there will be celebrated in their Liturgy Room, accessed via the Sacristy entrance.

Fr Ainsworth, parish priest of Penrith, was taken ill this past week and requires an operation. Please keep him in your prayers. Deanery priests, priests from Workington and Cleator, are covering for him.
