The NHS in Cumbria looking for help
To enable us to integrate and support our new colleagues into their communities we are looking for ‘buddy’s’ who could help us with this process and be a friendly figure from the community to our new staff.
Although Cumbria is renowned for its friendly population, some staff who already relocated have struggled to make friends, and can find it quite an isolating experience. We have evidence that if we can socially integrate people into their local communities they are much more likely to remain in the county, and this is an important aspect if we are to retain our much needed key healthcare workers.
Not all of our new colleagues will be seeking a link to the church communities, but for those that are, we are hoping to find people who could help us with the following aspects:
• Be willing to meet up with the new person or swap phone numbers / social media.
• Introduce the individual to the rest of the church community.
• Advice on church services including Family Mass if appropriate, bible study times etc.
• Make them aware of church or local community social activities.
• Be a friend
If this is something you would like to get involved with we would welcome your support
They are particularly looking for Catholics as many working in the NHS in Cumbria are Catholics.
Please contact Amanda Kerr, CHOC, Hilltop Heights, London Road, Carlisle. CA1 2NS or email Amanda.kerr@choc.nhs.uk

A Thank You
From Robbie Wilkins:
“ Dear Parishioners, I wanted to thank you all for your financial support and prayers which enabled me to have a fantastic experience in Lourdes. It was wonderful to be able to support the less able members of our diocese to fully engage in the annual pilgrimage. It was really satisfying to be able to work with young people from other parishes and learn more about Our Lady, and our universal Catholic Church.
Many thanks, Robbie Wilkins”

The walk is about 10 miles each day and concludes with the diocesan Mass at Cleator at 3.00 pm. Age 16+  Young people can register their interest in joining the walk by contacting Fr John at Castlerigg - tel. 017687 72711.

Collection for Church Flowers
This weekend there will be a voluntary collection at Christ the King at all Masses to fund the weekly display of flowers in the church.

Weekday Mass Attendance
Weekday Mass attendance is very poor at the moment, especially at Christ the King.  Please find time during the week to assist at Holy Mass - particularly if you are retired or on holiday. Perhaps you could come with the intention to pray for a member of your family who no longer comes to Mass, for someone who is sick in the hospital or hospice with no one to pray for them, for the staff and pupils of our schools or for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. There is always something to pray for and the Mass is the best of prayers!

Research Study on Church Responses to Domestic Abuse in Cumbria — Help Still
Needed
Researchers at Coventry and Leicester universities are working with Christian charities Restored and Churches Together in Cumbria to carry out the first major UK study of Church responses to domestic abuse. The study will collect vital data that will inform the training provided to churches. We invite everyone – whatever your gender or experience of this issue - to take part in the research. The research has received ethical approval.
Participants’ confidentiality and anonymity will be assured: the church won’t be named and we don’t require your name or contact details. To complete the survey online visit https://coventry.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/domesticabuse.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Health and Safety
The balcony at St. Margaret Mary does not comply with current building regulations.  It is proposed to bring down the altar rails, which currently serve as a type of bannister, and to restore them to the sanctuary [it seems a shame to dispose of them]. A new bannister  will be fitted to comply with regulations.

Altar Servers
Any boys and men wishing to join the serving teams at Christ the King and St. Margaret Mary would be most welcome to join. The 9.00 am Mass on Sunday has not had a server for a number of weeks now and puts at risk the future viability of this Mass. Please have a word with Fr Michael.

Congratulations

Congratulations to parishioner Sean Crilley who, after many years, has fulfilled a lifelong ambition to establish his own funeral business.  His motto is ‘small, local, personal, professional’. I have always found Sean to be utterly caring, professional and truly Catholic in all the funerals I have celebrated with him.  We wish him well in establishing his business.  For more information, please contact www.seancrilleyfuneraldirectors.com or phone 01228 544905.
